No one's sure how Vero got its name

But it might have been derived from the pen name of a letter writer to an early newspaper. The  person signed letters as Veritas, which is the Latin word for truth. Pam Cooper of the Indian River County Library is investigating that and other possibilities, some of which she has debunked.

This is Paul Janensch with my last Treasure Coast Essay for WQCS.  Because I am getting up in years, I decided it’s time for me to leave the microphone.  In 2010, when I was a volunteer with the WQCS Radio Reading Service for the visually impaired, I was invited to do a weekly local feature for 88.9 FM.  So I have done short pieces about interesting people, places and events on our special stretch of Florida’s Atlantic Coast.  Most of my topics were upbeat, but some were about invasive plants and animals, pollution of the Indian River Lagoon and, of course, hurricanes.  I enjoyed writing a
