Dear Listeners,

As many of you are aware, Governor Scott Vetoed funds approved by the Florida Legislature for Fiscal Year 2012. This included a service grant of $61,715 to WQCS, and was a budget reduction of 30% from the previous year.

WQCS has been part of the Florida Department of Education budget for nearly four decades and although the funds have decreased annually over the past few years, WQCS is still committed to providing educational and informational services to the citizens in our communities.

This most recent reduction in funding will impact the employment of our part-time staff as well as some programs you have come to love. Rest assured, as the prime Emergency Alert System station in our area, WQCS will devote our efforts to being adequately prepared for the hurricane season. We will continue to provide local news and public affairs as well as national and international news. We will also continue to provide special program services for the blind and visually impaired. No other station provides the depth of news reporting or the wide range of programming that is available on WQCS.

As the development professional for WQCS, my goal is to make up the loss of funding through alternate sources. Our most important source of revenue is YOU our listener. Fewer than 5% of our listeners are members. In order to make up this difference in funding I must find 617 new members at the membership average of $100 per member.
