An award to the Estefans

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about an award to our own Gloria and Emilio Estefan for their service to the country.  They are among 17 recipients of The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor, bestowed last week by President Obama.  Gloria is the Cuban-American pop singing star.  Emilio is her husband and manager.  They own the Costa d’Este Resort in Vero Beach and live nearby on the ocean.  Other recipients include baseball’s Yogi Berra – posthumously, of course – and filmmaker Steven Spielberg.  It’s been a big year for the Estefans.  Gloria was among the entertainers who warmed up the crowd before Pope Francis said Mass in Madison Square Garden.  “On Your Feet!” – the musical based on their lives – opened on Broadway to favorable reviews.  To Gloria and Emilio “Felicidades!” – “Congratulations!”  I’m Paul Janensch.
