Double homicide

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about a gruesome double homicide that has received attention far beyond our beautiful stretch of Florida.  It happened the night of August 15 on upscale Southeast Kokomo Lane at the southern edge of Martin County.  John Stevens and his wife Michelle Mishcon were stabbed to death outside their home.  Sheriff’s deputies found a man on top of Stevens in the driveway, biting the victim’s face.  It took several officers and a police dog to subdue the attacker.  Mishcon was found dead in the garage.  Austin Harrouff, 19, a Florida State University sophomore whose parents live nearby, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital.  An investigation into motive was launched.  A stunned neighbor said murder “just doesn’t happen here.”  I’m Paul Janensch.
