Honoring Dodgertown

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the designation of the old Dodgers spring training site in Vero Beach as a Florida Heritage Landmark.  A Historical Marker was unveiled at what was Dodgertown and is now called HistoricDodgertown.  Among those participating was Historic Dodgertown Chairman Peter O’Mally, whose family owned the Brooklyn Dodgers when the team opened the facility in 1948.  The Dodgers – later the Los Angeles Dodgers -- stayed until 2008 and then moved to Arizona.  HistoricDodgertown is a training complex for sports teams from all over the world.  If you visit Historic Dodgertown, look for the marker on the walkway leading to the conference center.  It celebrates a 61-year era when, every March. the Vero Beach dateline was familiar to sports section readers everywhere.  I’m Paul Janensch.
