Hot enough for you?

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about our hot summer. Average high temps have been higher than usual for the season. On many days in July, the mercury rose above 90 in Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin Counties. Why? Prevailing winds from the west, reaching our stretch of Florida after passing over the state’s hot interior. The ocean breeze from the east was light or nonexistent. Healthcare professionals advise us to drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids. Apply sunscreen and wear a hat with a wide brim. Take it easy outdoors during the hottest part of the day. Indoors, if you don’t have air conditioning, open the windows and turn on the fans. If you feel sick from the heat, lie down in the shade, drink fluids and call 911. Here’s some advice from me. If someone asks, "Hot enough for you?" just smile and keep your cool. I’m Paul Janensch.
