Hurricanes: Are we due?

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the 2016 hurricane season.  It began June 1 and goes to November 30.  Will Florida luck out again?  The last hurricane to hit the state was Wilma in October 2005.  That was more than 10 years ago – Florida’s longest hurricane-free streak ever recorded.  This season, forecasters predict up to four major hurricanes in the Atlantic, with winds over 110 miles an hour.  That’s close to normal but more than the past three years.  There is no way of knowing whether any will bang into the Sunshine State.  Don’t assume our luck will continue.  Be prepared.  Roof and hurricane shutters in good shape?  Emergency kit ready to go?  Insurance policy paid up?  For a complete check list, go to wqcs.org, pull down the News menu and click on Hurricane Information.  I’m Paul Janensch.
