This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about a man named Kight – k-i-g-h-t -- whose name lives on at Indian River State College. Alonzo Barnard Kight, a longtime resident of Palm City, died September 12th at the age of 99. The Kight Center for Emerging Technologies on the college’s main campus in Fort Pierce is named for Kight and his wife Audrey. They helped raise millions for the facility. They also established a scholarship fund. Kight was born in New York City, practiced patent law, served in the Navy and held high positions with Western Electric, Borg-Warner and Rockwell. His relationship with the college began when he retired and took a computer course at the Stuart campus. Today on the front of the imposing tech center, the letters k-i-g-h-t are prominently displayed. I’m Paul Janensch.
