No hurricanes again

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about our hurricane-free hurricane season that ended November 30.  We lucked out again.  For the ninth year in a row, Florida was not hit by a hurricane.  Not since record-keeping began in 1878, has Florida gone so long without a hurricane.  Florida is supposed to be the U.S. hurricane capital, but a direct hurricane hit on the state has not occurred since Wilma in 2005.  Only one major storm hit the Continental U.S. this year.  That was Arthur, which clipped North Carolina.  For our hurricane-free hurricane season we can thank El Nino, the warming of the Pacific Ocean,which results in fewer storms in the Western Atlantic.  Forecasters say this streak will end eventually – maybe in 2015.  So don’t get complacent.  For 88.9 FM, this is Paul Janensch.
