Old Vero Man Dig Will Continue

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the Old Vero Man Ice Age site.  The dig will continue -- overseen by Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce and the university’s Department of Anthropology.  That’s good news to ring in the New Year!  FAU takes over from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, which pulled out for budgetary reasons.  The site -- near the Vero Beach airport – is one of the most important finds in North American archaeology.  Human remains dating back 15,000 years were discovered in 1915 during construction of a drainage canal.  In the past two years, archaeologists have uncovered possible fire pits.  Also found: a strand of braided string, probably from a piece of fabric.  I wonder what else is down there.  I’m Paul Janensch.
