Our own submarine builder

If you are in the Principality of Monaco this week, you might want to stop by the Monaco Yacht Show to see the five new models being offered by Triton Submarines of Vero Beach.  Oh, you won’t be in Monaco?  But you are thinking about buying a submarine?  Stay tuned, and I’ll tell you how to proceed.   Triton Submarines occupies nondescript buildings off Route 60 just east of I-95.  But what goes on inside is pretty exotic: The making of submarines – or submersibles if you prefer – for doing research, making documentaries and just plain fun.  Pilot and passengers enjoy a 360-degree view from inside an acrylic bubble.  The new models include an eight-person sub that can dive 1,000 feet and a two-person sub that can go down a mile.  Maybe you saw a Triton sub in a television documentary about a giant squid off the coast of Japan.  Pilot training includes make-believe dives in a simulator, as well as real dives.  The name is from Greek mythology.  Triton was half-man and half-fish. Triton subs start at $3 million.  You can also purchase a support vessel for about $5 million.  Still interested?   The company will invite any prospective buyer to visit its factory in Vero Beach.  Go to tritonsubs.com and click on Contact Us.  For 88.9 FM, this is Paul Janensch.
