Remembering Jackie Robinson

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about two tributes to Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball and trained at Dodgertown in Vero Beach.  On Monday and Tuesday, April 11and 12, PBS will premiere “Jackie Robinson,” a documentary by Ken Burns, who said:  “Jackie Robinson is the most important figure in our nation’s most important game.”  On April 15, the third annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game will take place at what is now Historic Dodgertown to mark the anniversary of Robinson’s debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.  The following year, Dodgertown became the first integrated spring training site in the South.  The Brevard County Manatees will play the St. Lucie Mets to benefit the United Way of Indian River County.  Batter up!  I’m Paul Janensch.
