Savannas Trail

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the new Savannas Recreation Trail in Fort Pierce.  Feel like going on a leisurely hike – safe and scenic?  The Savannas Recreation Trail – which opened in September -- is for you.  The walkway is paved and eight feet wide.  It stretches two and a half miles from Midway Road north to Savannah Road.  It takes you through pine woods, over scrub and wetlands and along small lakes.  You can see wildlife, such as wading birds and alligators.  Bridges keep you high and dry.  Benches are placed along the way.  Go to the Savannas Recreation Area at 1400 East Midway Road and ask for directions to the trail head.  The walkway was funded by Fort Pierce to compensate for the crossing of state-owned lands by the Crosstown Parkway Extension Project.  I’m Paul Janensch.
