This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the saving of a life. Cindy McKenna, of Port St. Lucie, was celebrating her birthday with family and friends at Pepper Park beach on North Hutchinson Island. As reported by Elliott Jones on TCPalm.com, a young man who could not swim disappeared under water about 50 yards out. Three swimmers brought the unconscious victim to shore. Cindy, a nurse at a home for the disabled in Stuart, ran to his side. She felt no pulse. Cindy knows CPR and began a cycle of breathing into his mouth and pushing down on his chest. A bystander helped with the chest compressions. The victim gasped and resumed breathing. He was rushed to the hospital and recovered. Cindy said, “It was the greatest gift I could have, helping save a life.” I’m Paul Janensch.
