Science Fair 2016

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the recent Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Gifford Middle School.  Budding scientists and engineers grades K through 12 displayed 421 projects.  The four exhibits judged Best in Show addressed these questions: On which surface will a Lego car go down a ramp the fastest?  Answer: Non-stick foil.  Does the distance you shoot an arrow affect how deeply it goes into a foam target?  Yes, but closer does not necessarily mean deeper.  Can any current technology detect planets outside our solar system orbiting a black hole?  Yes.  Does the ocean’s pH level have an impact on the growth and color of shrimp?  Yes.  Another Question: Is being good at science and math becoming cool?  Yes!  I’m Paul Janensch.
