This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about St. Lucie Mets outfielder Tim Tebow, number 15. Since he was promoted to the Advanced Class A team, attendance has boomed at First Data Field. The crowd of 7,000 on the Fourth of July was one of the largest in the team’s history. Why this Tebow-mania? First, Tebow is playing well, knocking homers out of the park. Second, he already was a sports celebrity before switching to baseball from football. As a University of Florida quarterback, he won the Heisman Trophy. He went on to play in the NFL. Third, many fans like him as a devout Evangelical Christian and generous philanthropist. Better catch him with the St. Lucie Mets this summer. It’s likely he will be playing on a major-league team in 2018. Presumably the New York Mets. I’m Paul Janensch.
