Top Treasure Coast News in 2014

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the top Treasure Coast news stories in 2014.  Number 1 for the entire Treasure Coast was the mostly negative reaction to All Aboard Florida’s plan for a high-speed passenger train service between Miami and Orlando, The Federal Railroad Administration held three meetings on the Treasure Coast.  More than 17 hundred attended.  Almost all who spoke opposed the $2 billion project.  In Indian River County, the sale of the Vero Beach electric utility to Florida Power & Light was jeopardized. Indian River Shores and the county threatened to pull customers outside Vero Beach away from the utility.  St. Lucie County got good news.   A site in Tradition was approved for the state’s seventh veterans nursing home.  In Martin County, voters rejected a 1 percent sales tax for maintenance of roads, bridges and drainage.  By 72 votes.  I’m Paul Janensch.
