Wed Nov 1, 2017 PLANETARIUM SHOW: WEATHER

Wed Nov 1, 2017 PLANETARIUM SHOW: WEATHER
skywatch_11-1-2017.mp3
There’s a new show at Indian River State College’s Hallstrom Planetarium this weekend. It’s all about the weather, and a lot of the beautiful sky phenomena you can see, like rainbows, rings around the moon, auroras, noctilucent clouds and parhelia or sun dogs - these are bright solar images caused by ice crystals high up in the atmosphere, which refract sunlight out into discs, arcs and pillars of light surrounding the sun. The weather show talks about why we have weather, and recreates some of the most-talked-about subjects, like thunderstorms, hurricanes – there’s something we Floridians can relate to – tornadoes, there’s even a pretty snowfall! Come on out and enjoy some weather and the stars under our dome, where there’s never a cloud in the ceiling – unless we program it! The weather show will be held this Friday at 6 and 7:30 pm, and again on Saturday at 1 and 2:30 pm. Call the IRSC box office at 462-4750.
