St. Lucie County – Carla Lenfesty, Family and Consumer Sciences Faculty at the University of Floirda's Extension Office in St Lucie County tells us simply washing foods, even those where you won't eat the outside, is a safeguard against listeria and other food bourne illnesses.

Treasure Coast – If it's been a while since you've visited a branch of your local library, you'll find a lot has changed, and a lot hasn't.

Indian River County – Animals must be at least four months old and owned by someone who lives in Indian River County to qualify for the free vaccination. Dogs must be brought in wearing a collar and on a leash, cats must be in a carrier. The Humane Society is located at 6230 77th St. in Vero Beach.

Martin County – Martin County Health Dept. offers a cookbook with recipes and information on low mercury fish. You can download it here

Fort Pierce, FL – This week on Treasure Coast Happenings, Drew Mello talks with Jill Borowicz, CEO of SafeSpace; a private non-profit organization helping victims of domestic abuse on the Treasure Coast.

During October, men in Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties will be walking a mile in red high heeled shoes as part of the SafeSpace 2nd annual men's march, "Walk a Mile In Her Shoes," to raise money for their domestic violence prevention programs.
