A decade of dominance

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the extraordinary Vero Beach High School girls lacrosse team.  They won their 10th straight state final with an 11-to-8 victory over Ponte Vedra in Bradenton.  Can they win their 11th straight state final in 2016?  It won’t be easy.  The Fighting Indians are losing 11 seniors.  Coach Shannon Dean worked with them since middle school.  Seven of the 11 will be playing on Division I college teams next year.  So Coach Dean is faced with the challenge of rebuilding the Vero Beach program.  A lot of freshmen started playing on the club team last week, each hoping to join the nine team members who will be returning.  The competition in Florida is catching up.  Previously, only two or three teams played at the same level as Vero Beach.  This past season, 15 were competing at a high level.   As I said, it won’t be easy.  I’m Paul Janensch.
