Down-to-earth diva

This is Paul Janensch with a Treasure Coast Essay about the return of diva Deborah Voigt to Vero Beach.  The dramatic soprano will host the first Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition for young opera singers March 24, 25 and 26.  On March 23, opera lovers can spend “An Evening with Deborah Voigt.”   She has sung with Vero Beach Opera in the past and owned a condo on North Hutchinson Island.  She ducked out just before a hurricane hit her building.  Voigt, 55, will serve as a juror and present the awards.  For more about the event, go to the Vero Beach Opera website.  For more about Voigt, read her autobiography, “Call Me Debbie: True Confessions of a Down-to-Earth Diva.”  Having chatted with her, I can verify she is indeed down-to-earth, as well as very talented.  I’m Paul Janensch.
