Honor Flight honors vets

“Off they go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun.”  In this case, the “they” are veterans who will be flown to Washington on November 3rd to visit the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.  They will be the guests of Honor Flight of Southeast Florida, based in Stuart.  Since it joined the national non-profit Honor Flight network in 2009, the organization has sponsored 11 flights to Washington for veterans of World War II and veterans with a terminal illness.  The program later will focus on veterans of the Korean War and Vietnam.  All expenses are covered by individual donations and fund-raising events.   The 12th and 13th flights by Honor Flight of Southeast Florida will depart from Palm Beach International the morning of November 3rd and return that night.  Volunteer guardians will accompany the vets.  For information about making a donation or serving as a guardian, go to honorflight.org and click on Regional Hubs to get to Honor Flight of Southeast Florida.  For its motto, national Honor Flight has adopted a saying by humorist Will Rogers: “We can’t all be heroes.  Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.”  For 88.9 FM, this is Paul Janensch.
