Vero Beach – Heather Stapleton suffered repeated bouts of dysentary and malaria while serving in the West African nation of Benin. She had her bags packed, but ultimately decided to stick it out, and stayed an extra year. Now she's education coordinator at the Environmental Learning Center in Indian River County.
