Our own fugitive hunter returns

Indian River County resident John Walsh is back on television tracking down fugitives.  His new series “The Hunt with John Walsh” is shown at 9 p.m. Sundays on CNN.  Walsh hosts the program from inside a dim and empty warehouse.  His earlier and highly successful crime-fighting program “America’s Most Wanted” aired on the Fox network for 25 years.  It is credited with helping law enforcement capture more than 1,200 fugitives and find more than 60 missing children.  The program was picked up briefly by the Lifetime cable channel and cancelled in 2012.   Walsh and his wife Reve have close ties to Indian River County.  In 1981, the partial remains of their 6-year-old son Adam were found in an Indian River County canal after he had been abducted from a shopping mall in Hollywood, Florida.  The Walshes became advocates for crime victims, especially missing and abused children.  They moved to the Vero Beach area in 1982 and had three more children.  Walsh and partners turned citrus groves west of Vero Beach into an equestrian facility.  He and his sons Callahan and Hayden love to play polo.  “The Hunt with John Walsh” is off to a good start.  The premiere on July 13th drew nearly 1 million viewers, making it the highest rated debut ever for CNN.  For 88.9 FM, this is Paul Janensch.
