treasure coast – As the new school year gets under way, this is a good time to see how the Treasure Coast public-school districts are doing at the elementary and middle-school level. Pretty darned well, according to the most recent F-CAT scores. F-CAT stands for Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. District grades are determined by students' scores for reading, math, science and writing. The Martin County District earned an A for the 10th consecutive year and was the third highest in Florida in total F-CAT points. J.D. Parker School of Science, Math and Technology regained its A after dropping to a C last year. The Indian River County District earned an A for the fourth year in a row. Beachland Elementary achieved its 13th consecutive A. Imagine Schools at South Vero and Glendale Elementary improved from C to A. The St. Lucie County District received a B, coming closer to an A than last year. Sewanee Ridge Elementary, St. Lucie Elementary and Renaissance Charter improved from C to A. The Palm Beach County and Brevard County districts both earned A's. High-school scores will be released later in the fall. Schools that go up a grade or maintain an A receive an extra $70 per student from the state. The money can be spent on faculty bonuses or school supplies. For 88.9 FM, this is Paul Janensch
